Movie Review: Kung Fu Dunk (2008)

If you enjoyed the film Shaolin Soccer, you should also watch this film even though this movie is all about basketball with a twist of kung fu. Kung Fu Dunk was originally titled "Slam Dunk" because it was based on the highly-acclaimed anime "Slam Dunk" even though there is no connection with it aside from the sports basketball.

 Promotional poster for the live-action
film Kung Fu Dunk, the original poster

But now I forgot some of those movies. Well, here's a thriller-horror-suspense film which features another version of the hit Japanese horror movie The Ring.

The fact is, Johnny Lee is the Korean City Hunter, while Jackie Chan and Mr. Mumble is the Chinese and Cantonese version of the City Hunter. Civil Service Exam Reviewer

Passing the Civil Service Exam will give you oppurtunity to apply for a government position. There are two classifications in a Civil Service exam, the professional and the sub-professional.

Julie Anne San Jose's first success on MYX Countdown

We all know that it's rare for a kapuso artist to topped in MYX's Daily Top 10 but last day Japs acquired the top spot in the countdown not only in the daily countdown but also in the weekly Pinoy Myx Countdown replacing Callalily's Minsan on the top spot and followed by PNE's Bagsakan.

Parokya ni Edgar still the best: Bagsakan II enters the countdown

Bagsakan II's success shows that PNE still have the charisma to the mass. They've been a band more than a decade. They started in 1993 in Ateneo de Manila. PNE has different musical genres from poprock to alternative rock. They provide novelty in most of their songs.

Callalily is back with their rendition of "Minsan"

Callalily is a poprock band started in mid-2000s. Their hit single "Magbalik"  of the album Destination XYZ became a doorway for them to acquire fame in the OPM industry. Their other single includes "Take my Hand", "Stars", "Pasan" and "Susundan".

Their singles Gabay, Nananaginip and Liwanag of the album "Callalily" also make it to the charts. Callalily were composed of A.K.L.A.T. but in 2010, their drummer Alden Acosta leave the band to focus in his studies and to become a drummer for a new band.  Lemuel Belaro replaced Alden as a drummer. The other three continued their role, Tatsi for lead guitar, Aaron Ricafrente for the bass and Kean Cipriano for the vocals and guitar.

When Eraserheads, Francis M. and Rivermaya are in the same stage

Here's a rare video of the top artists then in one stage. They are considered  as the Big 3 of OPM then because of their contribution to the OPM industry.

During the '90s, OPM has a great demand in every Filipinos. Everyone wanted OPM songs, mostly youths. It was a great era then, in which OPM reach it's golden period. In every radio station you will hear some Eheads songs or Rivermaya songs.

Then Francis M. introduced a new genre that will be easily accepted by Filipinos, this is the combination of rap and rock. He's songs became an instant hit in the charts these include Mga Kababayan Ko.

Did you know that "Hey Jude" was composed by Paul McCartney for John Lennon son's Julian?

Are you aware that "Hey Jude" was written by Paul McCartney for John Lennon's son Julian?

Mainly because in 1968, John Lennon and his wife Cynthia Lennon separated due to fact of John's affair with Yoko Ono. Soon afterwards, Paul McCartney drove out to pay a visit to Cynthia and her and Lennon's son, Julian.

McCartney thought that they've been very good friends for millions of years and it was a bit much for him to be suddenly personae non gratae.

Cythia recalled that it was truly a surprised when McCartney arrived in their house one afternoon on his own. Cynthia was truly touched by McCartney's concern for their welfare. In his journey down, McCartney composed 'Hey Jude' in the car. She will never forget Paul's gesture of care and concern for coming to see them.

The Rocky Fellers: First Filipino Music Act to Hit the U.S. Billboard Hot 100

Maybe this is your first time to hear about the Rocky Fellers, they are a pop/rock band composed of a Filipino family. They are the first Filipino band to hit the said chart. Before the Jackson 5 and the British wave, The Rocky Fellers was known in the US and here in the Philippines in the 1960s but they just faded quickly from the music scene in the mid-1960s, due primarily to the arriving British Invasion bands.

The Rocky Fellers were discovered by Stanley Kahn, and signed them to Scepter Records.  The group was composed of  Tony, Junior, Eddie, and Albert Maligmat, and their father, Doroteo "Moro" Maligmat. Their hit single "Killer Joe" which reached the No. 16 spot of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in April 1963 was written by Bert Russell and Bob Elgin. They followed it up with the song "Like the Big Guys Do".

TIKTIK: The Aswang Chronicles goes Viral

A new Filipino horror movie is going viral in the net. It's the sequel to the hit Aswang starred by Lovi Poe. The new movie is like a zombie apocalypse, changing the zombies to Aswang. (Aswang is a mythical creature in Filipino folklore, a vampire like zombies.)

The movie stars both kapuso stars Lovi Poe and Dingdong Dantes. It is created and produced by Reality Entertainment with Agostodos Pictures and GMA Films.

I just heard this movie last night, and the CGI effect where really good, the only real thing there was the actors, the houses and the vehicles. Other image there are computer-generated.

There is still no plot or sypnosis of this movie in the net but I think this will follow the story line of the previous movie entitled "Aswang" in which the female protagonist is starred by Lovi Poe. She was a part of the supernatural creature called "ABWAKS", but she fall in loved with an abwak hunter.

So based on the previous movie, the new male protagonist (Dingdong Dantes) might also fall in love with the ABWAK.

Mobile Internet: The next hub for Filipinos online

Internet in the Philippines first came on March 1994, in which the Philippine Network Foundation (PHNet) connected the Filipinos to Sprint in the US via a 64kbit/s link. Internet connection then was so slow, imagine a 64kbit/s running in a 64bit PC?

But today, more and more types of connection made available to more Filipinos including the mobile internet. According to Nielsen, 24% of Filipinos access the internet on a daily basis which makes 2 out of 10 Filipinos access the internet via mobile. Meanwhile 56% of Filipinos intend to access the internet via mobile but failed.

Currently, there are 3 service providers in the Philippines which offers mobile internet. The three companies are Smart, Sun and Globe. These companies offer promos for mobile connection, it can be a promo for accessing a social network for a day or it can be a free access for a relevant site for a month.

Currently Globe offers free Twitter access for its user. Users can browse the site for free until July 31, 2012. Subscribers should text FREE TWITTER to 8888 to avail of the promo or they can call *143# and go to surf promos menu and avail of the promo for free. This promo is also available for TM users.*

Smart also has its own promo, the Facebook free access. TNT and Smart users can avail of this promo by typing FB and send it to 211, then click on the download link which will be sent via SMS for free. *

These promos are helpful for the avid users of Twitter and Facebook. Meanwhile, trickster can bypass these promos and can connect to the web for free.

*To avail of these promos, users should have GPRS in their cellphones. If you have questions regarding these promos you can leave a comment here.
