Mobile Internet: The next hub for Filipinos online

Internet in the Philippines first came on March 1994, in which the Philippine Network Foundation (PHNet) connected the Filipinos to Sprint in the US via a 64kbit/s link. Internet connection then was so slow, imagine a 64kbit/s running in a 64bit PC?

But today, more and more types of connection made available to more Filipinos including the mobile internet. According to Nielsen, 24% of Filipinos access the internet on a daily basis which makes 2 out of 10 Filipinos access the internet via mobile. Meanwhile 56% of Filipinos intend to access the internet via mobile but failed.

Currently, there are 3 service providers in the Philippines which offers mobile internet. The three companies are Smart, Sun and Globe. These companies offer promos for mobile connection, it can be a promo for accessing a social network for a day or it can be a free access for a relevant site for a month.

Currently Globe offers free Twitter access for its user. Users can browse the site for free until July 31, 2012. Subscribers should text FREE TWITTER to 8888 to avail of the promo or they can call *143# and go to surf promos menu and avail of the promo for free. This promo is also available for TM users.*

Smart also has its own promo, the Facebook free access. TNT and Smart users can avail of this promo by typing FB and send it to 211, then click on the download link which will be sent via SMS for free. *

These promos are helpful for the avid users of Twitter and Facebook. Meanwhile, trickster can bypass these promos and can connect to the web for free.
