National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) is the leading maritime training center for Filipinos. The training center objectives is to produce highly competitive seafarers for local and international maritime jobs. NMP is located in Cabawalan, Tacloban City near the San Juanico Bridge.
Basic Safety Training in NMP is composed of 7 modules; the main (4) module are FPFF (Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting), EFA (Elementary First Aid), PSSR (Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities) and PST (Personal Survival Techniques). The three additional modules (in other training centers these modules are not part of BST) are GSTS (Gender Sensitivity Training for Seafarer), SHAPIMS (STD/HIV/AIDS Prevention in the Maritime Sector) and lastly, PADAMS (Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in the Maritime Sector). The BST is taken up for ten (10) days.
